Monthly Recap | January 2021

I was a little low on content ideas in 2020. To be honest, I was quite low on motivation for a lot of things last year, which I know most of us will relate with as we have all been in the same boat.

Towards the end of last year, I was trying to think of what I could blog about for 2021 seeing as things probably wouldn’t be changing drastically in the months ahead. Then the lightbulb moment hit, I thought why not document the ongoings of a whole month? Perhaps a little check in with myself of sorts. I don’t know how interesting it will be for anyone to read but I thought it would be cool for me personally to see how much will change with time as we re-emerge from the craziness of 2020. It might also serve as a reminder that things are not always bad and even in times of adversity, good things or moments can happen.

I don’t know where this new blog series is going to take me but I am going to roll with it. I hope you will come along for the ride too…

Back to class, online

Unfortunately, with Covid cases rising rapidly, we learned that we were heading into our third national lockdown. For me, this meant I would be staying at home for a little while longer after the holiday break, living and working! Like most of the country, I had mixed feelings about this, but there was a sense of relief as the thoughts of heading back out there when the situation was so serious was anxiety inducing. So, it was back online for college and work projects, but it wasn’t all bad because I did get three extra days holidays! I was also able to retain a certain level of routine which I knew would keep me sane during these isolating times.

Making content, being creative

With a little more time at home, I decided I should turn my focus towards making content again. Writing for my blog, taking pictures for Instagram and dancing up a storm on TikTok are some of my favourite ways to be creative. Doing one, or all of these things put me in such a positive mindset. If I am starting to feel overwhelmed, I will push myself to do something creative (I usually start with writing out what I am feeling/thinking) because I find these are the avenues I can give up on when I am not feeling myself or college/work life gets in the way which will only make me feel worse. SO, to help shake the lockdown ‘feels’ off, I jumped into making various types of content and I have been having so much fun doing so.

Happy Birthday to you…

January is also my lovely Mammy’s birthday month. Of course as a lockdown birthday, the day itself was pretty chill but it was still a nice day all the same. It was spent with my parents and Grandmother (who is in our social bubble) with a video call from my sister and nephews. Presents were given, cake was had and selfies were taken to mark the occasion, I don’t think you could ask for anything better. If there is one thing to come from lockdown, it’s that what matters most is already in front of you in the form of those closest to you.

New year, new blog logo

As previously mentioned, I have been having a lot of fun creating and this was the month I revamped my blog’s logo. I have been working so hard on my design skills recently and put a lot of time and effort into the new logo to get it looking the way I wanted. I am genuinely so proud of it, after all these years I think it is the best one I made so far. It’s very clean, crisp and so ‘me’. It’s the upgrade the blog needed for the new year.

Gaining those Coding skills!

Coding is something I’ve been interested in for a while but I was always a little daunted by it and where I would start. Then I came across Code With Google, it originally started as an initiative to get young girls into coding and tech related careers (which I am all for 💗) but the more I read on, I came across online coding courses for everyone to access. After reading through the the content, I found ‘Grasshopper’. Grasshopper is an app that aims to give beginners a basic knowledge of JavaScript. The app itself is easy to use with lessons that are quick, interactive and fun to do. It’s definitely been a great way to start a journey in coding.

Online shopping treats

I am probably not on my own here when I say I treated myself to some online shopping this lockdown. As you can see from the pictures, I got a gorgeous Hello Kitty palette from Colourpop which I am absolutely obsessed with 😍 Colourpop collections are always so fun and I just love the glittery shades!

I also got some custom made pieces from Maggie over at Maggie’s Digital Design. Maggie is a super talented digital artist and recently started selling her creations on her Etsy store. When I saw she was making Animal Crossing/Nook inspired pins I knew I had to support! Her items are of such high quality and the colours on this pin are so vibrant once you peel off the protective film she places to keep them from getting scratched up in transit. I would highly recommend Maggie’s shop for some unique gifts for yourself or your loved ones. She even added a sticker into my order for free so thank you Maggie ❤️

I hope January was kind to you, I definitely tried to make the best of it. If there were any stand out moments (big or small) for you this month, let me know in the comments below.
