Between album drops, single releases and just straight up tunes, February has been a real treat for the ears, and that’s why I can’t let this month pass without focusing on some of the key music moments.
Thank U, Next – Ariana Grande
Just 8 days in and Queen Ari herself, announced on Instagram, that not only was a music video coming the following day, she was about to drop the Thank U, Next album that same day. Just six months after her most recent album ‘Sweetener’?! I don’t care what anyone says, this girl is a hit song producing machine. After hearing the singles ‘Thank U Next’ and ‘7 Rings’ I had no doubt that the upcoming album would be nothing but great, what I didn’t anticipate was it’s timely release and the fact it manages to be full of absolute bops. I figure if anyone can do it, it’s Ariana Grande.
MDRN LV – Picture This
Closer to home, Picture This were gearing up to release their highly anticipated second album, MDRN LV, on February 15th from none other than The Empire State Building in New York – talk about a grand entrance – and they did just that! With singles like ‘One Drink’ and ‘If You Wanna Be Loved’ released and adored by fans ahead of the album, you could tell MDRN LV would be their next taste of success. When asked by their record label what their goal for the future was, they simply responded with being the biggest band in the world, and already having legion of fans, being the first band to release an album atop the Empire State Building with 5 unprecedented gigs at the 3 Arena still ahead of them, I fully believe that goal won’t be an unachievable feat for them. Keep flying the flag for the Irish, boys!
To pay homage to both these albums, I have included my 3 current favourite tracks (it’s always subject to change 😉) from each release in my monthly playlist below.
Down Days – ROE
I would like to give a nod now to Northern Irish instrumentalist, Roisin Donald, known as ROE, whose magnificent latest single, ‘Down Days’ was released this month. In this track, ROE tackles the stigma of mental health while assuring us that although she (and every human) has down days that it’s okay to feel and have those days. It’s beautifully put together and there is a reason that this song opens my February Playlist. The future is bright for this young musician.
This is February…
I hope you enjoy this specifically curated playlist, I think it’s one of my favourites so far. Let me know what music you have been loving in the comments below 🙂
